FAQ
Do I have to be a MARC member to join the MARC Mileage Program?
Yes. The program is only for MARC members in good standing.
Do I have to belong to a Region to join the MARC Mileage Program?
No. You can join the program regardless of whether you belong to a Region.
How do I register my car?
If you belong to a Region, your Mileage Coordinator will have registration forms. Complete all information requested on the front of the form and return it with your registration fee of $1.00 to your Mileage Coordinator; he or she will forward it to the MARC Mileage Program chairman.
If you do not belong to a region, or if your Region does not have a Mileage Coordinator, you may contact the MARC Mileage Program chairman directly, by phone, mail, or email, to request a registration form, or you may print the registration form found on this website and return it to the MARC Mileage Program Chairman. Contact information is provided at the end of this section as well as under the “Contact Us” tab for this program.
What does it cost to register my car?
The registration fee is $1.00 per car and is good for as long as you own the car provided you maintain your status as a MARC member in good standing by renewing your membership each year.
How do I report my mileage?
If you belong to a Region, your Mileage Coordinator will collect the odometer readings from all registered members at the end of the calendar year and will submit them to the MARC Mileage Program chairman no later than February 28 of the following year.
If you do not belong to a region, or if your Region does not have a Mileage Coordinator, you may report your end-of-year odometer reading directly to the MARC Mileage Program chairman by mail or email no later than February 28.
A Mileage Reporting Form is available on this website for use by Region Mileage Coordinators or individuals who wish to use it. You may choose either the printable PDF version or a downloadable Excel version that automatically calculates mileage based on the odometer readings recorded.
How are driving awards determined?
At the time of registration, you will record the mileage on your odometer. Award recognition begins when you have accumulated 2,000 miles; the second award level is 5,000 miles; and subsequent awards are given at 5,000 miles thereafter. A round blue plastic plaque is awarded with the first mileage level, and replacement mileage tabs are awarded thereafter.
It is possible to skip mileage tabs if you accumulate enough miles. For example, if your first mileage report after registration shows that you have driven 5,000 miles, there will be a 5,000-mile tab on your plaque instead of a 2,000-mile tab. Likewise, if you have received a 10,000-mile tab and your next mileage report indicates that you have 20,000 total miles driven, you will skip the 15,000-mile tab and receive a 20,000-mile tab as your next award.
What should I do if I sell a car that is registered in the program?
When you sell a car registered in the program, you should notify either your Region Mileage Coordinator or the MARC Mileage Program chairman that the car has changed hands. In addition, please advise the new owner that the car was registered in the Mileage Program and is eligible to continue receiving awards if it is re-registered in the new owner’s name, provided that the new owner is a MARC member.
It is the seller’s decision whether to give the new owner the mileage awards he or she has accumulated with the car.
If I buy a car that has been registered in the program previously, do I need to pay another registration fee?
Yes. The $1.00 fee is required to transfer the registration for the vehicle to the new owner’s name.
If I buy a car that has been registered in the program previously, does my mileage start over?
The mileage accumulated by a vehicle previously registered in the program may, if the new owner wishes, be transferred to the new owner and future mileage awards continue to be accrued based on total miles driven. If there is a gap between the former owner’s last reported mileage and the new owner’s starting mileage, those miles will not be credited to the new owner.
However, if the new owner wishes, he or she may restart the mileage on a vehicle so that future awards are given based only on the miles accumulated by the new owner. A new owner wishing to do this should contact the MARC Mileage Program chairman by mail or email with a written request to restart the mileage at the time of the new registration.
What happens to my mileage if I let my MARC membership lapse?
If you do not maintain your status as a MARC member in good standing by renewing your membership each year, your vehicle registration(s) will be marked Inactive. In order to reactivate the records for your vehicles when you rejoin MARC, you will be required to pay the $1.00 fee again for each of your vehicles and report current odometer readings as of the time of re-registration. Miles accumulated during the time that your MARC membership was lapsed will not be credited. Future awards will continue to be earned based on total miles driven as a MARC member in good standing.
What happens if I do not report my mileage every year?
Nothing. There is no requirement that you report your mileage every year. However, if no mileage has been reported for 10 years, the registration for that vehicle will be marked “Inactive.” If you begin reporting mileage on that vehicle again after that period, the registration will be returned to “Active” status.
